WORK

My experience is a collection of system engineering, human factors research and user experience. After finishing my graduate studies and thesis, I began my career at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and have worked on several space missions.

Role: Mission Operations Training Lead Engineer

I lead the training program for the flight operations team. A large part of the training program centers around simulation, so scenario development, pre-test training, test execution, and process & human factors evaluation are my focus.

It’s my job to:

  • Lead operations readiness tests planning and execution (process simulations).

  • Evaluate processes for efficiency and human factors risk areas.

  • Describe flight team roles and required training & certification criteria.

  • Coordinate training presentations and workshops.

  • Track progress of flight team trainees towards certification in their flight roles.

Role: Mission Operations System Engineer

I worked on the development team (pre-launch) and operations team (post-landing) for the Mars 2020 mission. During development, I contributed to various system engineering efforts, including activity dictionary management, operational interface agreements, and operations readiness tests. In these high-fidelity system tests, the tools and teams are put through real life operational scenarios, including anomalous ones, where they practice responding to problems while getting effective training in their flight team roles. After the Perseverance rover landed on the surface of Mars, I joined the Mars 2020 operations team, which plans the rover’s daily activities.

Role: User Experience Researcher

I lead the UX for OnSight, working with users, developers and stakeholders to improve OnSight’s usability. OnSight is an immersive Mars terrain visualization application that runs on the Microsoft HoloLens and on the web. Scientists and engineers on the Mars Science Laboratory Mission/Curiosity Rover mission use OnSight to understand the environment around them in a collaborative fashion.

CSULB | Center for Human Factors in Advanced Aeronautics Technologies

Role: Researcher

During my graduate studies, I worked as a student researcher at the Center for Human Factors in Advanced Aeronautics Technologies (CHAAT). CHAAT is a NASA-funded university research center at California State University, Long Beach, that studies the effect of displays and automation on air traffic controller performance, mental workload, and situation awareness.
